anonymous poem

search beneath the skin
(you're already there)
can feel your heart/ maybe your soul/ but can you feel your blood/ boil/ your bones ache/ cells divide/ head quake/ inside there's more/ beneath the skin/ years and years/ of been again/ archetototypes/ cross divide/ multiply and gain/ flow freely/ pleasure pain/ one world to the next/ learn the best/ and the worse/ for you're better off/ aching from thirst/ when you see/ what you can be/ when you're free/ peeling back/ now and again/ beneath the skin.

and incredible quote:

The West has always been the epicenter of possibility. One of the ways we forge against mortality is to head west. It's to do with catching the sun before it slips behind the horizon. We all keep moving toward the sun, wishing to get the last ray of hope before it sets.

nano crazy

From Slashdot:

Nanotube-Excreting Bacteria Allow Mass Production
Posted by Zonk on Saturday December 08, @03:23AM
from the building-tech-from-the-ground-up dept.

Biotech
Invisible Pink Unicorn writes "Engineers at the University of California, Riverside have found semiconducting nanotubes produced by living bacteria — a discovery that could help in the creation of a new generation of nanoelectronic devices. This is the first time nanotubes have been shown to be produced by biological rather than chemical means. In a process that is not yet fully understood, the bacterium secretes polysacarides that seem to produce the template for the arsenic-sulfide nanotubes. These nanotubes behave as metals with electrical and photoconductive properties useful in nanoelectronics. The article abstract is available from the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences."

what is a filmaker?

This has been asked so many times; what makes a director. Well here it is from one of the most successful of all time:

Pick up a camera. Shoot something. No matter how small, no matter how cheesy, no matter whether your friends and your sister star in it. Put your name on it as director. Now you're a director. Everything after that you're just negotiating your budget and your fee.

-- James Cameron

your genes for all to see

[0]DoroSurfer writes "ZDNet is reporting that 23andme.com will open its doors on Monday, allowing you to send them a cheek swab and have [1]your DNA analyzed for $999 (plus shipping, of course... ;)). So what's a thousand bucks buy you? They can tell you your ancient ancestry, They can tell you what diseases you're predisposed to, They give you a "Gene Explorer" that allows you to do a search in your genome to find out if you have a certain gene (e.g., you just heard on the news that Gene XYZ has been linked to Alzheimer's Disease)."

Dream Big

An excerpt from an article on Maxine Clark creator of Build A Bear Workshops

"...you should always allow yourself to dream -- and dream big -- it's only through such thinking that great things happen. Don't limit yourself because you don't think your dream is attainable. You must start by believing you can truly achieve whatever you set your mind to, no matter how big it might seem. Not dreaming big enough is one of the biggest mistakes you can make -- if you can't see your dream, how do you expect others to?"

Origins, originally.

Well...origins and universe, universally. What is truth, are truths. What is self evident. What? Archetypes? Connected? Random? Which way do we go. Which way don't we. Just ranting, more later...

Klog and Rant

What makes a great film, television program, book, poem, painting, photograph...? The pieces that tell a good story...real stories ring true and strike chords. Chords of praise, discontent, happiness, horror, rage, even outrage. Think about your favorite film. What made it stick in your unconscious? What made it resonate, touch hearts, souls. The story. Whether through strong narrative, theme or visuals, this is the one element that trumps all tricky techniques or camera angles. Nothing can replace it; nothing can cover the lack thereof. Just ranting for now...more later.
